Solomon Enfield constructed a building on (South) Second Street that would include a saloon and bowling alley in the fall of 1874.
The first advertisement appears in July 1875 and proclaims to be the city's only bowling alley. In August 1876, Bennett & Enfield started a hardware business at this location but their partnership dissolved in January 1877. I correlated an article about the Laramie Furniture building fire in 1905 and an 1883 Sanborn Map to an exact address for Enfield's saloon and alley. I cannot find any bowling alley newspaper references during the late 1870s and early 1880s which is surprising and doesn't add up with the Sanborn map. I'm fairly positive this alley was a ten pinnet or box ball arcade configuration and the alley was still in the building when the 1883 map was created but likely not getting much attendance. |
