Mapleway Amusement Company first appeared in the 1939 Polk Laramie City Directory providing a variety of entertainment including bowling.
The alleys and cafe were downstairs (dance hall upstairs) and the cafe was managed by Bernard Nelson. Two new alleys were added in January 1936. Elmer Lovejoy and Garry (F.) Braisted were the managers/owners of the lanes per the 1939-40 Ives Business Directory. Harry and Garry (F.) Braisted were the managers/owners of the lanes per the 1941-42 Ives Business Directory. In February 1942 an advertisement mentions Harry Exby as possibly the manager. In 1945, the first Wyoming Women's State Tournament was held here and Phil Trumbull set the pins by hand. F E Rocchio first appeared as the owner of the new Mapleway Bowling Lanes at 414 S 2nd in 1949. F E Rocchio (who lived at 755 N 5th) was the owner/manager of the alleys per the 1950 & 1953-54 Rocky Mountain Business Directories. Yuen C Lee was the owner/manager of the alleys per the 1955 Rocky Mountain Business Directory. In 1957, a student upset about a Branding Iron editorial on Sheridan rebutted that Laramie's "broken down bowling alley" couldn't compare to the "up-to-date bowling alley" there. In February 1958, the Mapleway was once again chosen to host the fraternity intramural tournament but lost out to the newly constructed Laramie Lanes, signaling the end of this establishment. In 2023, this address is the location of the Prairie Rose Cafe. |
